Bienvenue à Finhaut-Emosson !
Riders will not be alone on the road between Saint-Maurice, Martigny, Finhaut and Emosson on the occasion of the 17th stage of the Tour de France 2016. The entire region looks forward to welcoming you in the company of tens of thousands other enthusiastic spectators.
The Tour de France will see many visitors using our roads on foot, bicycle, motorcycle and by car. The police, Organizing Committee and hundreds of volunteers encourage everyone to be patient, use common sense and respect for others so that the Tour de France in Valais will be wonderful celebration for everyone.
Always obey signage, signs and instructions given by the security service of the staff!
How to get there?
Bikes are best suited to get to the race route. As public transport and mountain roads only offer limited capacity, certain roads will be closed well in advance before the passage of the publicity caravan. Bicycles can use roads of La Forclaz and Emosson until 1 pm, to the extent of available capacity along the route. The bicycle access from France is open via the Col des Montets, Vallorcine, le Châtelard and the village of Giétroz.
Besides the roadbike, the stage final will be accessible from the Rhone valley near Martigny by mountainbike, through the ‘route des dilligences’ that connects Vernayaz to Salvan, then continuing his route to the Marécottes, le Trétien and Finhaut. Approximately 11 km and 1000 m elevation between Vernayaz and Finhaut.
Walking and mountain hiking
Pedestrians can access the route from Martigny, but also from the campsite in Salvan and Vernayaz. Follow parking signs from the highway exits and follow the directions to Salvan or Vernayaz. From Salvan, count 1:45 to get to Finhaut (6.5 km and 350 m elevation). From Vernayaz, count 3h beautiful hiking (11 km and 1000m elevation). The various walking routes will be signposted.
SBB trains serve Martigny Train Station. From Martigny Train Station, the Tour can be reached in the city of Martigny and the departure of the Forclaz Pass can easily be reached by walking. Bike transport with SBB trains is restricted. Two trains are equipped with bicycles carriages from Lausanne-Geneva to Martigny and vice versa. Info: cff.ch/tourdefrance
The Mont Blanc Express runs between Martigny and Finhaut and Châtelard with Vertic’Alp facilities to connect the valley with the arrival site of Emosson. Tickets are subject to booking well in advance (ticketing.mont-blanc-express.com).
Trains from Chamonix to Vallorcine will run according to the regular high season time table. As from Vallorcine, tickets to Finhaut are subject to online booking via (ticketing.mont-blanc-express.com)
Free parking will be available in the Rhone Valley, Salvan and Argentiere (F).
The parking spaces will be limited along the route and in the village of Finhaut and the arrival site of Emosson there are no public parking spaces at all. Follow the signs and instructions to get to the parkings before continuing on foot, bicycle, or public transport.
Campers will be prohibited along the entire road from the Finhaut to Emosson. You can park at the temporary campsite of Salvan (reservations +41 27 761.31.01 / firstname.lastname@example.org) or Médettaz (www.valleedutrient.com), camping Vallorcine (www.vallorcine.com) or the camping in Martigny.
Camping will be allowed on the designated camp sites in Finhaut (very limited, only access to tents), Salvan , Vallorcine and Martigny.
